They reflected on the development of their activities during the 3 passed years (2007 to 2009) and discussed their current projects (the mobility project; the AEC projects, etc.) During this meeting, they shared the achievements, difficulties and potentials of the WCY throughout the three years. The realizations by the WCY throughout their actions reflect their success: the official recognition of the AWCY, the increase of grassroots group members with an important number of children, the widening out of partners with other structures and NGOs, etc. As part of the most important difficulties, one notes insufficient training and communication. In contrast, the potentials of the AWCY lie in the implication of children and youth in the decision making and development of their country. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The objective aimed at through this activity is to inform and to make the population aware of the problem, for a change in conduct and mentality and to reduce the amount of children that leave. Sketches and the image box were presented with the help of a WCY facilitator and everybody’s participation. This activity was done in the presence of the customary and administrative authorities (neighborhood chief, municipal counselor, etc.) - During the same period, the WCY of Gaya organized a big public event with the same topic in Tara, a village of the Gaya community in the extreme south west. To carry out well this activity, the WCY had as priority the meeting of all actors working on behalf of the defense of the children’s rights (authorities, structures, etc.). To achieve this result, the WCY aimed first at the outskirts of the city of Ziguinchor where the children and youths live in extremely precarious conditions. After a study, they put in place follow up and management committees for the AWCY activities, with the help of the local council. Each committee is charged to do a census of the children in school age and of those who left school early through lack of money of the parents or due to the move of the family and who are already working or will be working sooner or later if they don’t go back to school. Those children comprise orphans and handicapped children. Previous, the follow-up committee of each neighborhood met with the school directors and negotiated places for those children. They reunited 12 Sports and Cultural Associations of the community, 12 candidates for the Miss elections and different artists who did very nice presentations. This big presentation went beyond the expectations of the AWCY. Approximately 6000 people, mainly young ones, were mobilized in the different localities. Many activities took place at this occasion: techno and Mbalax dancing, Miss modern and Miss traditional, general culture, sketches and individual Mbalax for children. The themes rotated around current affairs and children’s interests. To better present the picture and voice of the AWCY and its interest in society, the activity enlarged its partnerships with the local and administrative authorities (the town hall, the police, the Red Cross, the fire brigade), thanks to a strong and good cooperation between the AWCY and the authorities, who supported and contributed largely to the success of this event.
